Internships
Penn Athletics Marketing:
This is a great opportunity for those of you who don't have time for a full internship during the school year, but still want to be involved in sports business. If you truly are considering a career in sports business, it is incredibly important to get as much experience in the field as possible. There are so many people trying to break into sports business, and it is a field where the Penn/Wharton name does not carry as much weight. Realistically, you should have something sports business related on your resume for as many semesters/summers as possible.
This is where our Penn Athletics Marketing initiative comes into play. We have the opportunity to work directly with Brian Head, who manages the entire revenue side of Penn Athletics. This allows each of you who participates to lay claim to specific goals that you have accomplished for Penn Athletics. you can use these accomplishments to enhance your resume when applying for future internships and jobs in the industry. Brian outlined several initiatives we will be working on in the coming months. These initiatives cover various fields including ticketing, event marketing, sponsorship, market research, gameday promotion, and fan outreach.
If you do not already have a sports business position for this semester, and even if you do, I would HIGHLY encourage you to participate in this program. We here at the Undergraduate Sports Business Club do our best to help you break into the industry, but in the end it is up to you to put in the effort to accumulate a body of work. The USBC and Penn Athletics Marketing will be holding a focus group session Thursday, October 18 at 6PM for all interested students interested in participating in out initiative. The room is TBD depending on demand. Time commitment for this initiative can be as much or as little as you want, and you are free to work on whatever aspect of sports at Penn interests you, subject to Penn Athletics approval. If you are interested, please send an email to ugsportsbusiness@gmail.com with your Name, class year, and email address.
